How to convert salary to hourly pay

Enter your pay amount and choose Annual, Monthly, Twice a month, Every two weeks, Weekly or Hourly. Your hourly pay and salary breakdown update as you type. Use Work schedule to adjust weekly hours and paid weeks, including part-time schedules.

Currency controls the display label only; it does not convert money using exchange rates. All results use the same currency as your input.

Annual salary to hourly rate

Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year). At 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks, divide your annual salary by 2,080. To convert hourly pay to annual salary, multiply the hourly rate by those annual paid hours.

For a $60,000 annual salary, 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks per year: annual hours = 40 × 52 = 2,080. Hourly rate = $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85, rounded to cents. The monthly average is $5,000. An hourly rate of $30 with the same schedule gives an annual equivalent of $62,400.

Calculations use unrounded values internally. Money uses the currency’s standard decimal places, so multiplying a displayed hourly rate back into annual hours may not reproduce the exact annual amount.

Monthly and weekly pay to hourly rate

Monthly salary to hourly pay

Multiply monthly pay by 12, then divide by annual paid hours. For example, 4,000 per month × 12 ÷ (40 × 52) = 23.08 per hour. The calculation works in whichever currency you choose.

Weekly and biweekly pay to hourly pay

Divide weekly pay by hours per week. For pay every two weeks, divide by twice your weekly hours. At 40 hours a week, 1,200 weekly or 2,400 every two weeks both equal 30 per hour.

Common salary-to-hourly conversions

With 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks, 40,000 a year equals 19.23 per hour; 50,000 equals 24.04; 60,000 equals 28.85; 80,000 equals 38.46; and 100,000 equals 48.08. These examples use two decimal places. Your results follow the decimal places of your selected currency.

Use the same schedule when comparing job offers. A 60,000 annual salary at 40 hours a week has a different hourly equivalent from the same salary at 30 hours a week: 28.85 versus 38.46 with 52 paid weeks.

How the pay periods are calculated

Monthly input is multiplied by 12; twice-monthly input by 24. Weekly input is multiplied by your paid weeks per year; every-two-weeks input by half that number. Hourly input is multiplied by annual paid hours. These calculations first establish annual gross pay.

Annual pay is divided by 12 for the monthly average and by 24 for twice-monthly pay. Weekly pay is annual pay divided by paid weeks; every-two-weeks pay is twice that weekly amount. These are equivalent amounts, not a prediction of individual paychecks or payroll dates.

The default is 40 hours per week and 52 paid weeks per year. Include paid holidays and paid leave; reduce paid weeks for unpaid time away. If your annual salary stays at $60,000 but your paid weeks are 48, annual paid hours are 1,920 and the hourly equivalent becomes $31.25.
