How to crop an image
- Choose an image from your device, drag and drop it into the tool or paste an image from your clipboard.
- Move the crop selection over the area you want to keep. Drag a corner to resize it with your mouse or finger, or choose a preset to keep a particular aspect ratio.
- Enter Left and Top to position the selection precisely. Enter Width and Height to set the cropped image’s pixel dimensions.
- Select Crop & download to save the cropped version immediately. The original image and selection stay in place so you can create another crop.
Choose a square, landscape or portrait crop
Use 1:1 for a square composition, 3:2 or 4:3 for a landscape crop, or 16:9 for a wide image. Portrait options include 2:3, 3:4, 4:5 and 9:16, with 5:4 available for a wider frame. Original keeps your image’s proportions, while Free lets you adjust width and height independently.
An aspect ratio describes a shape, not a fixed resolution. A 1200 × 675 crop and a 1600 × 900 crop are both 16:9. Selecting a preset keeps those proportions as you resize; the width and height inputs show the actual pixel dimensions, rounded to whole pixels.
Cropping an image vs resizing it
Cropping removes content outside the selected rectangle. Resizing scales an image to different dimensions. For example, selecting an 800 × 800 area of a 1600 × 1200 photo produces an 800 × 800 image containing only that area. The cropper does not stretch or enlarge the selected pixels.
Frame a photo for a profile, listing or banner
Choose what stays in the frame
A square crop can focus a profile photo or product listing on its subject. A wide 16:9 crop gives a landscape or banner more horizontal space. Move the selection before downloading so important details stay inside the frame.
Separate aspect ratio from pixel size
A 1:1 selection is square at any size. For a specific square image, choose the ratio and then enter matching width and height values that fit within the source. Cropping selects existing pixels; it does not enlarge a small image.
